What is Hebel and where is it used?
Hebel is autoclaved aerated concrete, supplied as panels and blocks. It is used for external cladding, party walls between attached dwellings, and flooring over a steel or timber structure. It is chosen for its fire and acoustic performance and because it goes up far faster than masonry.

The system is the product
The single most important thing about Hebel, shaftliner and lightweight cladding is that you are not buying a material. You are buying a tested system.
A party wall's fire rating and its acoustic rating come from a specific, documented build-up: a particular framing arrangement, a particular panel, at particular fixing centres, with particular jointing. Change any part of it and the certified performance no longer applies, even if the substitution looks equivalent and even if it's a better product in isolation.
On a party wall between two dwellings, that distinction is the entire job.

Flat frame, flat wall
Panel systems telegraph everything underneath them. A frame that is out of plane by a few millimetres between studs shows up in the finished render, and by then the fix is expensive.
So we check the substrate before panels go on and correct it then. It is a short job at that point in the sequence and a miserable one afterwards.

Panel systems are unforgiving of an out-of-plane frame. We check what we're fixing to before panels arrive.

Panels set out, cut, fixed and jointed to the manual, with flashings and control joints in the right places.

Ready for render
Handed over as a flat, correctly jointed substrate for the rendering or finishing trade.
